Dennis O’Callaghan
Managing Director
Dennis is one of New Zealand’s most experienced remuneration and performance consultants. He started as a remuneration consultant with the Wyatt Company in 1987, focussing in particular on job evaluation.
In 1994 Dennis set up his own consultancy, Strategic Pay, which grew by 2010 to become NZ’s largest specialist remuneration consultancy. He developed a reputation for innovative and practical solutions to a wide range of remuneration and performance issues, designing and implementing job evaluation systems, salary management software and performance management tools.
In 2012 he was awarded the HRINZ HR Specialist of the Year Award in recognition of his achievements.
Dennis has an innovator’s eye in what works for client organisations, understanding their issues before modifying existing systems, and developing new tools and processes as needed. His job levelling technology and Leading by Example 360 degree feedback tool are two such examples.

Research foundations
Our approach is underpinned by robust research into employee perceptions around performance and rewards and into what constitutes “fairness”.
Pay fairness is much more strongly linked to employee motivation and engagement than the HR profession and academics would have us believe. Pay fairness and organisational justice underpin the Just Rewards approach to performance and remuneratiion.
Independence
Just Rewards operates independently of other professional service firms, including remuneration and salary survey providers and their products.
We do not conduct salary surveys, Rather, we can provide prudent, unbiased advice on the range of surveys available in NZ and their suitability for client needs.
